Coronavirus crisis: How might Oakham McDonald's opening date be affected by pandemic?

The pandemic may hit the planned opening of the new McDonald's in Oakham.

Earlier this year, the fast food giant gained planning approval for a restaurant and drive-through on land off Land's End Way.

The outlet, the first in Rutland, was due to open in 2021.

However, work has yet to start on the scheme, which promises at least 65 jobs.

Today, as McDonald's announced the re-opening of many drive-thrus, including five in the Peterbrough area and one at Glinton, near the Deepings, Oakham Nub news asked them about Oakham.

A spokesman said: "We are just monitoring the situation closely."

He then advised us to contact then in a few months for "more of an update".

The comments come as the fast food giant today re-opened about 40 drive-thrus nationwide.

McDonald's says it has overhauled its procedures to make them safe for staff and customers since the lockdown began two months ago.

As part of today's re-opening, McDonald's announced it also hopes to have the rest of its other drive-thrus back open by early June.

No dates were given for the re-opening of its Lincolnshire drive-thrus including Stamford, Bourne, Grantham and Colsterworth.

The same is also true for the McDonald's at Melton.
