Network Rail is 'confident' the A6003 at Manton should re-open on Monday as planned.

The comments follow speculation on social media that the repairs to the bridge, which is more than 100 years old, may not be completed in time.

The road has been closed for almost three months, since April 12, for vital repairs to take place, as previously reported by Nub News.

Gary Walsh, Route Director for Network Rail's East Midlands route, said: "Work on the £2.8million project to upgrade Manton bridge is progressing well and we are confident that the A6003 will reopen as planned on Monday 5 July. Traffic lights will be in place for a further two weeks to allow us to complete the final stage of the project safely."

Mr Walsh continued: "We completed the main stage of work to lift the old bridge and put the new one in place earlier this month. We are continuing with further brickwork and stonework before we move the cables and take the scaffold bridge down."

He added: "We want to thank people in Rutland and the surrounding areas for their continued patience whilst this vital work has taken place. It will make sure people can use the road and railway safely and reliably for years to come."

The road will open on Monday 5 July at 21:00, in line with the traffic order and Network Rail says it will work to open it earlier in the day if possible.

The final stage of the project, as well as work to remove the site compounds, will continue until the end of July.
