Rutland showground planning application for camping withdrawn

By The Editor 23rd Jun 2021

Rutland County Council has today (Wednesday 23 June) received a formal instruction to withdraw, with immediate effect, plans for 150 camping pitches at Rutland Showground.

The planning application withdrawal follows mounting opposition to the proposals following public disturbances stemming from the current festival at the showground in Barleythorpe, as previously reported by Nub News.

A statement from Rutland County Council this afternoon noted the withdrawal concerned proposals for a change of land use adjacent to the Showground site at Showground Way, Barleythorpe, Rutland.

These proposals included using that land for the following purposes:

  • A campsite and caravan park
  • Outdoor events and shows, such as charitable, commercial, competitive and show events.

The statement noted the application has now been marked as withdrawn in the Council's records and comments on it can no longer be made on the Council's web site.

The council said if the owners of the Showground should wish to pursue these proposals again in future, that would require submission of a new application for planning permission to the County Council.
