Community petition to save leisure centre reaches nearly 2000 signatures
A petition to 'Save Catmose Sports Centre' has reached nearly 2000 signatures as of 8:30am Tuesday 31 March 2023.
On 26 January 2023, Rutland County Council announced that "sadly, the Council has been unable to find an operator who can run Catmose Sports Centre at zero cost", meaning that the centre will close to the public on 31 March 2023.
Catmose Sports currently has around 900 members, as well as casual users and members of local sports clubs.
This announcement caused uproar among the local community, who pointed out that Oakham, the County Town of Rutland, soon will not have a public leisure centre, pool, cinema, banks and other amenities which attract tourists and new residents alike.
