Council approves £2.84m for highways, potholes, resurfacing, drainage and street lighting

The cabinet of Rutland County Council has approved a spend of £2,843,000 for 2023/24 for highways
Speaking to members at the meeting of 14 February, Conservative Cllr Rosemary Powell, Deputy Leader and portfolio holder for Planning, Highways and Transport, announced: "The funding has come from the Department of Transport for allocation to the highways capital programme for the coming year, and supports the council's statutory duties as a highway authority."
Among the proposed allocation of the funds are £470,000 to carriageway maintenance, pre-surfacing, dressing patching and minor resurfacing, £265,000 for potholes, £120,000 for bridges and £150,000 for drainage schemes. There will also be £20,000 allocated to street lighting, £154,000 for traffic signal upgrades and £60,000 for footway resurfacing.
Some specific projects have also been earmarked for funding including a new pelican crossings in Oakham on the High Street by the Market Place and by Oakham Congregational Church, in Burley Road outside Oakham CE Primary School, and in Uppingham in London Road by Redhill Way.
A cycle path will be constructed at Lyndon Top, a footpath built in Geeston, and improved laybys in Caldecott, and a footpath widened in Oakham Road, Langham. Footways will be resurfaced in Oakham on Coldoverton Road, Kennady Close, Glebe Way and Malvern Walk, the same will be done to Church Lane in Clipsham, Middle Street in Wing, Cross Lane in Preston, London Road in Uppingham and Church Lane in Glaston.
Members of the cabinet unanimously approved the sum.
