Man arrested after five people assaulted in Oakham pub

A 29-year-old Oakham man was arrested following reports that five people had been assaulted inside and outside The Captain Noel Newton pub in the town.

A Leicestershire Police spokesman told Oakham Nub News: "Police were called at around 10.25pm on Friday, 20 December, following a report that a man had assaulted a number of people in a premises in High Street, Oakham, and outside the premises.

"Officers attended the scene and a 29-year-old man, of Oakham, was arrested on suspicion of five counts of assault.

"The man was taken into custody where he was also reported to have assaulted an officer.

"He was further arrested on suspicion of assaulting an emergency worker."

The man has since been released on bail pending further enquiries, which are ongoing.

Of the five people allegedly assaulted in the initial incident at the Wetherspoon's pub - one woman and two men were injured, although they are not believed to be life-changing or life-threatening, and two women did not report any injuries.

The police officer who was allegedly assaulted did not report any injuries.
