A much-loved Oakham cafe looks set to become a house again.

A planning application has been made to Rutland County Council to change the use of Castle Cottage Cafe in Church Passage from a cafe into residential use.

Owner Ruth Beaver of Tinwell said in her application: "We want to return the property back to a dwelling house for residential use. We want to replace the kitchen, move the downstairs toilet and extend the bathroom upstairs to include a shower. The outside of the building would be unchanged."

She further said of the premises: "This was converted from a dwelling house to a cafe/tearoom in 2004/5. It remained in this use until now. It was vacated by the last tenant on September 11, 2020 after the fixed term lease ran out."

At the time when this happened, there was much sadness in Oakham, as previously reported by Nub News, with the closure attracting more than 100 comments on social media.

However, the operators of the former cafe are now said to be opening elsewhere in Oakham.
