Oakham-based group, The Trusted Team, have made a commitment this year to help raise funds for the Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation.

Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation is the leading UK lung cancer charity dedicated to helping everyone affected by the disease.

Since 1990, when the charity was set up by Professor Ray Donnelly, they have funded millions of pounds of essential lung cancer research, looking for ways to detect the disease as early as possible and save lives.

They support everyone affected by lung cancer – from diagnosis, through treatment, living with the disease and end of life care. They raise awareness, prevent future generations from getting it and challenge the misconceptions of lung cancer.

Now, they are being supported by the Oakham-based coaching business, The Trusted Team, who are hoping to give back this year.

The coaching business, which helps business owners, professionals and entrepreneurs ignite and implement innovative and original growth ideas, believes that corporate responsibility needs to be high on the list for all companies, especially in the wake of COVID and during these challenging economic times.

Founder, Charlie Reading, said that "so many charities are struggling at the moment, which means that there are thousands of people missing out on the help, support and guidance they so desperately need. As a business owner, I feel that it is my responsibility to give back and help to change this situation."

When it came to choosing which charity to support, Charlie stated that, sadly, this decisions had been relatively clear this year.

He said; "50% of my team have been impacted by lung cancer this year alone, with relatives and loved ones being diagnosed or sadly passing away from this terrible illness. With the strains on the NHS becoming even more pronounced, thousands of people won't be diagnosed until it's too late and won't receive the support and treatment they need."

Anyone can develop lung cancer: men and women, young and old, smokers and non-smokers.

If you have lungs, you can get the disease.

With around 48,500 lung cancer cases each year, it is the most common cause of cancer death for both men and women, and is responsible for the most deaths with 130,180 people expected to die from this disease. That is nearly three times the 52,580 deaths due to colorectal cancer, which is the second most common cause of cancer death.

Charlie said: "We believe that it is vital that everyone is aware of the disease and that everyone impacted has access to the support, early diagnosis and life-lengthening treatment that they deserve. The Roy Castle Lung Foundation have a mission to ensure everyone diagnosed with lung cancer can live well with the disease for as long as possible. They continue to be the voice of people living with lung cancer to raise awareness and, ultimately, save lives."

To help raise as many funds as possible, The Trusted Team will be hosting various events, from a golf day to wine tasting and gala dinner.

These events are aimed at business owners, professionals and entrepreneurs, so not only give companies the perfect way to network and build their businesses, but also gives them an accessible platform to help a vital charity and give back to their community.
