Oakham man donates over £1.9k for Leicestershire and Rutland blood bikes with historic cycle challenge

Adam Lowe, former Mayor of Oakham, has undergone a challenge over the last three months, raising £1950 for Leicestershire and Rutland Blood Bikes.
Adam started the challenge in June, following his 100th blood donation, to raise awareness for the need for more people to donate blood.
He set his challenge to visit all the World War Two Poll boxes around Rutland, donating £25 for every pill box he visited.
Adam completed his challenge, visited 28 military items, cycling about 150 miles in total over about 16 miles.
His final visit was to one of Rutland's most historically important bases from World War Two and the Cold War. The base is situated in North Luffenham, now known as St George Barracks. Used as part of Project Emily in the Cold War in 1950s and 60s, the disused missile site was terminated in 1963 in favour of missile sites elsewhere.
Due to the fact this site is in a military exercise area, Adam was escorted around the site by members of the 1st Miliary Working Dog Regiment.
Speaking at the end of his challenge, Adam said 'Thank you to everyone that has supported this last three months, I hope some of you feel the urge to now become Blood Donors and thank you for all the donations, with Gift Aid I estimate the final figure is around £1925.'
