Oakham parents with children starting primary school next year are being reminded to not to miss the deadline in applying for a place at their first choice schools.

Children born between 1 September 2015 and 31 August 2016 will be eligible to start primary school in September 2020, and the closing date for applications 15 January 2020.

They can be submitted by going online to: www.rutland.gov.uk/admissions, where there are full details and guidance to support parents through the application process.

Councillor David Wilby, Cabinet Member for Education at Rutland County Council, said: "Now is the time to submit an application if your child is starting primary school for the first time next year.

"It's important to submit your application before the national closing date and we would again encourage parents to make full use of the three preference options they are given when applying for a school place. You should also take time to read the admissions policies of your child's preferred schools before submitting your application."

Rutland County Council has published a short video guide on its website explaining the importance of using all three preference options on the application form. This can be viewed online at: www.rutland.gov.uk/admissions.
