Over the Easter weekend, Oakham saw an array of pavement poetry and art popping up at the end of the high street.

This morning, we walked down to find out more.

Like us, local people stopped to read a poem or two on their way to work, to the twice-weekly market, or while they were out walking the dog.

The installation got people chatting and certainly put a smile on the faces of those who paused to read and reflect.

One poem reads:

I'LL TELL YOU ONLY LOVE CAN TAME

THE HORSE WHO BROKE THE IRON CHAINS

WHICH DEMONS FIXED UPON HIS LEGS

TO SEE IF HE MIGHT PASS THE TEST

THE DEVIL SETS AS ANGELS SING

A SONG FOR HORSES IN THE RING

WITH LADY FATE FOUND STANDING THERE

HER EYES FIXED WITH A KNOWING STARE

The poem can be found on the pavement by the crossing opposite Sarpech and Oakham Wines.

The work can be credited to Danny Rowland - Author, Poet, Podcaster.

Pop down before it rains to get a glimpse of this temporary artwork, or check out his Facebook page for more.

Alternatively, get your art fix by heading down to Rutland Museum to catch the Youth Art Open Exhibition that runs until the 30th of April 2022.
