Oakham Rugby Football Club (ORFC) suffered a narrow loss away at Stamford this weekend, Saturday 25 February.

This long-anticipated face-off came after the game was postponed on 17 December 2022 due to freezing conditions and hard ground.

In the penultimate away game of the season for The Mighty Oaks, the neighbouring teams faced off in chilly conditions, with a massive turn out of home supporters for Stamford.

With a host of seasoned players out due to injury, ORFC put forward a strong but less experienced team. This was noticeable throughout the game, with Oakham supporters commenting on the sidelines that there were some less familiar faces on the team, causing some disjointed play - a factor which likely lead to the losing, but admirable final score of 15 - 19 to Stamford.

The second half of the game did see a vast improvement, The Mighty Oaks taking the lead with 15 - 12. Unfortunately, with less than 10 minutes remaining, and with an almighty push, Stamford managed to score a try and conversion, taking their total up to 19.

Stamford defeated Oakham much earlier this season at home, with a score of 15 - 29 to Stamford, so the club have clearly displayed some improvement under the new coach, Tim Andrews.

As the league table stands, Oakham are at number 9, while Stamford sit at number 5, so the 15 - 19 score was certainly an admirable one.

With only a few more games left this season, can Oakham climb any higher in the table?
