This weekend, Oakham RFC celebrated a landslide victory over St Ives at home.

The game, which had been rescheduled following freezing temperature and hard grounds before Christmas, took place at Rutland Showground, on Saturday 4 February.

Kicking-off at the same time as the first rugby six-nations match, tensions were high - including among the team members who were out for injury or rest following their loss against the Vipers from Whetstone.

First team captain 'Rhino' was among the injured, sporting a broken thumb that may well see him out for the rest of the season.

The lineup for the day was:

Backs

15 - William Andrews

14 - Sam Weatherall

13 - Henry Bird

12 - Johno Milnes

11 - Dan Watkins

10 - Callum Crellin

9 - Matthew Lammin

Forwards

1 - Lewis Crellin

2 - Martyn Stimson

3 - Pete Rawlinson

4 - Will Bell (Capt)

5 - Conor Steward

6 - Josh Tooley

7 - Alex Edmunds

8 - Cam Boyd

Rotating bench

16 - George Knight

17 - Nathan Gardener

18 - Tom Moxon

Travelling Reserve

Ben Morton

Unfortunately George Knight was injured in practice, but the team stepped up and had a cracking first half, coming into half-time well ahead with a 30 point lead.

Alex Edmunds was sent off with a minor head injury in the first half, followed soon after by Cam Boyd with a knee injury.

Tom Moxon and Nathan Gardner stepped up to fill those large boots.

Oakham RFC's winning streak continued after half time, but St Ives also slipped through to score in the second half.

Nonetheless, the team worked incredibly well and celebrated a hefty victory - lessening the blow of England's defeat.

The final score was Oakham 61 v 12 St Ives.

Stand out players of the day as stated by the spectators and the team were:

Sam Weatherall, for an early tear-away try, followed by another.

Dan Watkins, for a try hat trick.

Josh Tooley, for constant and strong defence, which enabled multiple tries.

William Andrews, for conversion accuracy and consistently high levels of play.

Henry Bird, for speed of tries.

Congratulations to the team.
