Sixty artists and craftspeople across Rutland and neighbouring counties are opening their doors to show people their creations.

Rutland Open Studios, now in its 14th year, is a flourishing community of artists, craftspeople and designer-makers working throughout the county and nearby. It's aim is to help bring artists and local people together.

During three weekends in September, starting this weekend, all the participating artists will be happy to welcome the public into their and studios providing an opportunity for visitors to see the work and learn about the techniques used and the passions that inspire the artists.

There is a wide range of media to see including paintings, printmaking, pottery and ceramics, sculpture, textiles, glass, jewellery, decoupage and photography.

Exhibitions are held in studios, homes, galleries, community halls, etc. Some have just one artist represented, while others have several getting together to exhibit their work.

It is all totally informal with artists and makers equally pleased to chat and answer questions or leave people to look around their working environment.

Chairman Mike Moralee said: "After what has been a very difficult and challenging time for everybody, we are pleased to welcome you back to ROS 21.

"Last year's Art Trail, like so many other events had to be cancelled due to lockdown and even this year we have changed from our normal June slot to September.

"The one bonus is that artists have had a lot of time to produce new and exciting work."

Mike continued: "This is the 14th year that artists from Rutland and neighbouring counties have opened the doors of their studios and exhibition spaces to the public, to give an insight into the creative processes involved in making art.

"We have 60 artists participating, including painting, sculpture, printmaking, jewellery, glassmaking, ceramics, photography and much more, there is literally something for everyone."

He added: "Although there is no 'Taster' exhibition this year, all artists have a gallery on the Rutland Open Studios website, which will give you a good idea of what they have been working on."
