Residents have been invited to join Oakham Town Council (OTC) as the local authority marks 50 years.

OTC will be celebrating its 50th Birthday in March, and the event will double up as a fundraiser for Rutland Community First Responders, the Mayor's charity for 2024.

The Rutland Community First Responders are volunteers who give their time freely to help save lives across Rutland. Responders are everyday members of the local community who are trained in the use of Automated External Defibrillators and the treatment and control of a wide range of potentially life threatening conditions.

In January, the team undertook a whopping 882 hours of support, service and training.  Calls that the team attend include strokes, cardiac issues, seizures, chest pains and infections, collapses, abdominal pain, epistaxis, falls, allergic reaction, anxiety and much more, sadly even some end of life calls.

The work that the volunteers do is all unpaid and funded through local efforts, which is why fundraisers such as this are essential to the ongoing success of the organisation.

As such, members of the local community are encouraged to join the party, which is set to take place at Oakham's Victoria Hall on 30 March 2024

Tickets, which cost £15 each, include music from a local saxophonist, followed by local band Hogwash, who will be performing classics from the 8s - when OTC was first founded. A light supper is also included in the ticket cost.
