A number of planning decisions were made by Oakham Town Council recreation, planning and general purposes committee following its meeting on 26 June 26:

An application for signage to be added to the recently opened banking hub at 43 High Street Oakham has been approved. A sign will appear around the ATM, with 'Banking Hub' branding on the main building in the same location as the previous 'Lloyds Bank' branding. (2024/0593/ADV).

An application for the removal of an ancient holly tree and the killing of its root system has been approved by a majority vote. The holly tree and its roots system are pushing out a dry stone wall with the risk of collapse onto a pedestrian walkway at Castle Garden Cottage, Church Passage, Oakham. Members voted by majority to approve the application with one abstention on the basis that the tree is not as close to the pedestrian walkway as perhaps indicated. (2024/0647/CAT).

An application for the change of use from a hairdressing salon, returning it to a residential home at 37B Northgate Oakham, has been approved. The property at No.37 had originally been two houses, with the front of one (37B) having been a hairdressing salon for some years. (2024/0668/FUL).

The next meeting of Oakham Town Council recreation, planning and general purposes committee is on July 24.
