Leicestershire Police have been busy tackling three key priorities in Oakham: anti-social behaviour, road safety and drug dealing/taking.

Officers say they have identified the priorities through listening to local residents' concerns raised through surveys and community consultations.

One concern raised was "Anti-social behaviour in and around Oakham & Barleythorpe is becoming more frequent in certain areas".

To tackle this problem, officers have been out and about in the community working with Rutland County Council and numerous housing association partners.

A spokesperson said: "If the ASB continues after these warnings, we continue to bring in other approaches to deter this happening further."

The priorities were organised through listening to local residents' concerns (Nub News).

Another issue raised by residents was speeding vehicles in and around Oakham, specifically the lack of adherence to 30mph zones.

Police said: "Your local neighbourhood team are being trained in how to use handheld speed guns, once this training has been completed we can go out with other officers and monitor speeding, if anyone is being found to be breaking the law we will deal with them appropriately.

"Due to the increase in reports from local residents around road safety, we have listened, and our response is to put on a specific operation focusing on speed, weight limits, seat belts, mobile phones, drink and drug driving. This operation will be in force in the coming weeks."

Leicestershire Police are also working closely with response and proactive teams to patrol areas which are becoming hotspots for drug dealing and/or taking. The force says they will "robustly deal with offenders and continue to use our stop/search powers to check persons in known areas".
