RATS will be heading to Rutland County Museum - but not the kind you think!
The RATS or The Rutland Arts Theatre Society is bringing its production of The Killing of Sister George to Rutland County Museum this week and weekend, the team ready to delight Oakham audiences with the 1960s play.
The amateur theatre group was formed in 1974 and the first production, 'Cinderella' was performed at Braunston Village Hall in January 1975.
Since this glittering launch, the group have put on three shows a year: a panto at the start of the year, a play in the spring and sometimes a musical show or a series of one act plays in the autumn.
Their upcoming production of 'The Killing of Sister George' is a 1960s play following the star of a long running soap opera, June. She lives with Alice "Childie" McNaught, a younger dim-witted woman she often verbally and sometimes physically abuses.
When June discovers her character is scheduled to be killed, she becomes increasingly impossible to work and live with, but what will come of the fading star?
The comedy thriller is sure to delight, and will run at the museum from 18 - 20 April 2024.
Tickets can be purchased for £12 from Oakham Wines or online.
While their current production will be staged at Rutland County Museum, the group have a long history of performing Music Hall and have put on productions at the Queen Elizabeth Theatre based at Oakham School, as well as Victoria Hall on Oakham High Street.
The RATS are the only amateur drama group in Oakham and continue to maintain a high standard of production for their loyal followers.
Follow the group on Facebook for more information on upcoming productions, rehearsals and engagements.
