Members of the Rutland Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA) have taken a trip to Derby to enjoy a beer festival at a CAMRA award winning pub.

Lead by Chair, Rich Harris, members of the local CAMRA branch jumped on a train to Derby on Friday to sample the delights of a recent CAMRA winner, The Brunswick Inn.

The venue has been recognised by Derby CAMRA as the 2024 Cider Pub of the Year, as well as being listed as a finalist in the 2024 City Pub of the Year category.

Although the regular lineup of beers at this friendly local is impressive, the team enjoyed a hefty selection of guest porters, stouts, golden ales, IPAs and other unique tipples at the mini beer festival, which took place throughout the week.

This particular pub was a popular spot with the Rutland team, who are familiar with landlord, Alan, who ran The Crown in Uppingham some years ago.

While they certainly tried their best, the team didn't quite manage to sample every beer, although they did enjoy some proper northern chips and gravy, as well as the sunny beer garden.

After enjoying as many of the beers as they could handle, the team took a trip down the road to The Alexandra, where

They rounded off the trip with one at The Victoria Inn, before wobbling, responsibly, back to the station and heading back to their hometown of Oakham in Rutland - where the team often enjoy a beer and a catch up at the range of great local pubs.

One of these pubs, most recently recognised by Rutland CAMRA, is The Railway in Ketton, just on the outskirts of the county, where the team awarded landlords Jamie and Louby with the Rutland 2023 Pub of the Year title.
