Residents have voiced their frustration at the condition of a verge which has been filled in with sod.

The side of Stocken Hall Road in Stretton has deep furrows which have temporarily been filled-in with newly cut sod; but when it rains this turns to mud, and could potentially be dangerous, according to residents.

Kevin Hawkes wrote to the Conservative MP for Rutland and Melton, Alicia Kearns, to complain at the lack of attention being given to sorting out the problem.

Mrs Kearns wrote back: "Thank you for taking the time to contact me. I am sorry to read of your frustrations with Stocken Hall Road.

"Sadly, road issues fall outside of the remit of a Member of Parliament, as roads are the responsibility of Leicestershire County Council."

Ms Kearns encouraged him to contact his local councillor Nick Begy.

Independent Cllr Begy is vice chairman of Rutland County Council and the leader of the Together4Rutland Group representing Greetham ward. He also sits on the planning and licensing committee and the strategic overview and scrutiny committee.

Cllr Begy said: "I have been made aware of the problem with the verge at Stocken Hall Road and I did receive the photographs taken by Mr Hawkes.

"I am currently in contact with highways to find out when a remedy can be put in place, but I want to reassure residents that the matter is in hand."
