A number of local schools have been awarded funding following an announcement that over £75m would be provided to support schools in the area.

On Monday 17 July, the Education Secretary announced that £75,141,826 has been provided in funding for schools in Rutland and Melton as part of the National Funding Formula allocations for 2024-25.

Under this Government, school funding will be increased to the highest level in history. In 2024-25 school funding will reach almost £60 billion, with per pupil funding at around £6,000.

Alicia Kearns, Member of Parliament for Rutland and Melton said: "We are very fortunate to have so many wonderful schools locally, and I am delighted we have secured this funding which will provide such a significant boost to all the staff, children and their families in our communities.

"It is vital that our school children get the high-quality education they deserve to go on and succeed later in life, and this funding will deliver the resources and support needed to guarantee this for every pupil in our schools."

This record-level funding for schools follows Friday's pay settlement, which announced the biggest pay increase for teachers in 30 years. The typical teacher will now take home almost £44,300 a year, with a pay increase of more than £2,700.

The national decision to increase school funding was made by the Government, but within this in December 2022 Alicia helped secure funding for Casterton College as part of the Government's £1.8 billion School Rebuilding Programme.

Since then 23 Primary Schools across Rutland and Melton have been awarded sparsity funding as part of the National Funding Formula (NFF), and most recently 7 more schools in Rutland and Melton secured a share of £456 million in Government investment for refurbishment.
