The Oakham and Uppingham Community Fridges will not be open today, Friday 10 March.

The Rutland Community Fridges will not be opening today due to weather conditions preventing volunteers from collecting food safely.

This initiative, run by Root-and-Branch Out CIC, sees volunteers collect surplus food from supermarkets on Thursday evening to distribute to local people on Friday.

The Oakham Fridge usually opens every Friday from 10 - 11:30am at Oakham Station, and the Uppingham Fridge from 1:30 - 3pm at Uppingham Town Hall.

The aim of the project is to reduce food waste and provide food to local people on a pay-as-you-feel basis, enabling any and all residents from the local area to participate.

The team shared: "Community Fridges will be closed at Oakham and Uppingham. Due to the weather conditions on the roads, we are not asking our volunteers to collect food."

Their Souper Space, held at Uppingham Town Hall from 1 - 3pm will also not be going ahead today.

A new Souper Space will be opening on Wednesday 15 March at Pepper's - A Safe Place in Oakham.
