Rutland Council looks set to confirm the appointment of a new chief executive.

Mark Andrews has been interim chief executive at the county council since last summer, following the retirement of Helen Briggs.

The appointment was reported on social media earlier in the week, when an email from Rutland Council leader Oliver Hemsley was published.

It said: "I am writing to tell you, following a successful Officer Appointment Panel, led by elected members, held on Friday 30th April, that I will be making a recommendation to Full Council to appoint Mark Andrews to the position of Chief Executive for Rutland County Council.

"As you know, Mark has been acting as Interim Chief Executive since last August, following the retirement of Helen Briggs.

"During the past nine months, Mark has provided exceptional and unwavering leadership during the most extreme and unexpected of situations, demonstrating that he is more than capable of delivering for the county.

"I am therefore delighted to take this recommendation Councillors at a future Full Council meeting – the date of which will be advised shortly."

Mr Andrews has been part of the Council's Strategic Management Team since 2015 and was appointed as the Council's Strategic Director for People Services in January 2019, until becoming Interim Chief Executive from August 1 2020.

Helen Briggs had been the council's chief executive for more than 13 years until her retirement.
