Rutland MP Alicia Kearns has launched a survey asking constituents about their experiences with local mobile phone and broadband coverage.

During her time as MP, Kearns has regularly acknowledged the lack of consistent and reliable broadband and phone signal. The survey, launched today, hopes to identify the 'notspots' in the area that require the most help getting up to speed.

'When I was elected in 2019,' said Kearns, 'only 10% of homes in Rutland and Melton had access to gigabit broadband. That now stands at 63%!'

'However,' she adds, 'I know there are still areas where broadband and mobile phone signal needs improving.'

In July, it was announced by Rutland County Council that Thistleton and Uppingham were the next towns in line to receive better access to the Openreach network. This will give residents and business access to reliable fast broadband, joining Ketton, Manton and Whissendine to become the latest town to benefit from better connectivity. Oakham currently has no set date to receive this upgrade. However, with Kearn's survey helping to identify key spots needing upgrades, communities are hopeful that change is on the horizon.
