Rutland Day 2026 is rapidly approaching, with a full schedule of events and activities happening at Oakham Castle to mark the occasion.

Taking place from 10am to 3pm on Saturday 12 September, this completely free family event is a celebration of Rutland's heritage, community and connection to nature.

One of the highlights of this annual event is a historic re-enactment from the Ferres Household, who are known across the Midlands for their 15th-century living history re-enactments of the retinue of Sir Walter Devereux (Lord Ferres) during the Wars of the Roses.

The group can be spotted at historic sites and festivals across the region setting up their authentic working medieval encampment, showcasing traditional skills like blacksmithing and woodworking, crafts and combat displays.

Another popular aspect of Rutland Day is the medieval walking tours. Join knowledgeable tour guide Nicola for a special mini walking tour highlighting Oakham's rich history and medieval heritage.

Explore the town taking in tales of medieval life, stopping at historic buildings and landmarks and meeting colourful characters from days gone by.

There is also a lot going on for families, with outdoor lawn games by Oakham Castle, circus workshops and activities from Root and Branch Out and Leicestershire and Rutland Wildlife Trust.

Inside the great hall, there will be an independent makers market, showcasing some of Rutland's incredible artisans and creatives, as well as children's crafts and an archaeology stall.

If, after all of that, you're in need of some refreshment, visit the Castle Cottage Café for locally sourced food and drink, including homemade cakes, breakfasts and light lunches.

The café has also partnered with Multum Gin Parvo to create a special Rutland Cocktail, which can be enjoyed with a Hambleton Bakery Pippin Platter showcasing the flavours of the county.
