Pub-loving pup walks himself to local pub

By Evie Payne 28th Mar 2024

An adventurous pup has taken himself on a trip to a Rutland pub without his paw-rents, much to the surprise of the team and locals at the cosy country venue.

Harris, a 10-year-old sheep dog, has taken a stroll to the local pub in Greetham for his first solo pint without 'mum' and 'dad', who run a local farm and adore their retired pet pooch.

Surprising locals, staff and patrons, Harris rocked up to The Plough Inn in Greetham solo earlier this week.

A regular at the pub with his owners, Jack and Lucy, Harris loves the attention, treats and warm fire at the cosy local venue - which has been branded "easily the most dog-friendly pub around" and "doggy heaven" in recent reviews.

Well, it turns out that Harris couldn't agree more, and ventured not-too-far from home this week to his favourite spot in front of the fire at The Plough. But can you blame him, as Greetham's The Plough stocks the finest Sir Woofchester doggy treats and is run by a team who are self-confessed animal lovers.

Harris's owner, Lucy, explained: "It's the first time he has made a trip to the pub on his own. I think he was tempted by the fire and treats!"

The retired working dog is a friendly and familiar face at the pub, where he "potters about not listening to anyone" but is adored by the team and patrons.

During his solo outing, Harris was welcomed warmly by the team, who recognised him following his many visits with his paw-rents to the dog-friendly pub, and called Lucy to bring him home.

"I can imagine he will be making the trip alone again," Lucy laughed.

Lucy and Jack are currently busy on the farm as lambing season kicks off. The team at The Plough joked: "It seems he got bored of all the lambs and fancied a drink!"

The Plough in Greetham welcomes walkers, locals, tourists and dog owners all year round, offering regular meal and drinks deals, as well as a weekly quiz night, bingo night and live music at the weekends - so a dog owner or not, you will certainly find something to keep you entertained at the popular local pub.
