Sue Ryder Thorpe Hall Hospice - which provides expert care for people with life-limiting illnesses across Rutland - is asking local people to seize a new opportunity this leap year by volunteering.

The hospice is inviting people to make the extra day on Saturday, 29 February count by finding out about its volunteering opportunities at a drop-in event.

People can pop into the hospice in Peterborough's Thorpe Road for a cup of tea or coffee and an informal chat with current hospice volunteers and staff.

Attendees will also be able to bag a bargain at a special sale being held by the Sue Ryder Thorpe Hall shop where items, such as clothes and accessories, will be £3 or less.

The hospice's nurses, doctors, care and support staff are helped by a team of around 300 dedicated volunteers – and are on the look-out for new recruits to join them in 2020.

"We are asking people to take the leap and volunteer for us," said Tina Parkinson, Volunteer Engagement Lead.

"Why not make your extra day this leap year count by finding out about volunteering at Sue Ryder Thorpe Hall Hospice?

"We are searching for volunteers who can give us their time and help us be there when it matters for our patients and their loved ones in 2020.

"We have a variety of opportunities to suit people of all ages and stages of life – from young people starting out to those who are not ready to retire just yet.

"From providing a warm welcome to our visitors on reception and spending time with patients on our specialist in-patient unit to tending our beautiful gardens, serving customers in our friendly coffee shop and helping with day-to-day admin that keeps us running smoothly – we have a role for everyone.

"We are also looking for volunteers to help out in our on-site shop.

"We will match your talents and interests to our needs to find a role you'll enjoy."

The hospice's volunteering drop in event is taking place on Saturday, 29 February from 10am to 1pm at Sue Ryder Thorpe Hall Hospice, Thorpe Road, Longthorpe, Peterborough.
