The Uppingham Neighbourhood Plan public consultation begins on 22 September 2023.

This follows the introduction of the Market OvertonLangham, Ketton and Tinwell and Oakham and Barleythorpe Neighbourhood Plans over the last 18 months.

The WingWhissendine and North Luffenham Neighbourhood Plans are also under discussion.

A spokesperson for Rutland County Council said: "One of the most important documents a town can produce is a Neighbourhood Plan. This looks forward, ensuring the town develops in the way which we have agreed, and we are not at the whim of random development and undesired change.

"There is no doubt it can be challenging to accept the need for increased housing, however by planning properly and looking ahead, the choice of where housing is and what the supportive infrastructure looks like, become ours. Developers are required to work with the Town Council regarding numbers, layout, design, roads and so on which without a plan can be uncontrolled."

A period of six weeks of public consultation on the draft Uppingham Neighbourhood Plan will begin on Friday.

The cabinet of Rutland County Council unanimously approved the publication of the draft Uppingham Neighbourhood Plan for six weeks of public consultation at their meeting last week.

After the six-week public consultation period is completed, the draft plan will be put before an independent examiner, and upon the outcome of their decision, Rutland County Council may authorise a referendum, with the outcome of that referendum determining if the plan becomes part of the Development Plan for Rutland.

Details of the plan can be found online.
