A local bus stop building has been closed to the public as a result of antisocial behaviour and vandalism taking place.

St John Street Bus Station in Oakham has been closed following an incident of antisocial behaviour and vandalism that took place this week.

A spokesperson for Rutland County Council said: "As a result of antisocial behaviour and vandalism at John St bus station, this building is temporarily closed. We will review the situation following the school Easter holiday period. We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause, alternative toilet facilities may be found at Church Street car park facility."

This follows the destruction of the defibrillator in Cutts Close only days after it was installed last summer.

Taking to social media, some residents have suggested that this destruction is caused because the young of Oakham have limited facilities to keep them entertained.

One resident commented: "In my opinion the council need to do something to get these teenage to have something in Oakham as getting bored so easy and doing all this stuff."

Another added: "I mean if the kids just went to the swimming pool instead? Or if their parents were able to afford it, the cinema? Or failing that they could use the excellent outdoor free-to-use council provided skatepark?

"Oh, wait..."

No timeframe has yet been announced for the reopening of the St John Bus Station facilities.
