Rutland County Councillors have voted to defer a decision on whether to accept a government grant worth £29.4m to help fund infrastructure improvements for the proposed future redevelopment of St George's Barracks.

Chancellor Sajid Javid announced in November 2019 that Rutland County Council had been successful in applying to The Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government (MHCLG) for Housing Infrastructure Fund (HIF) money.

The Oakham Branch of the Royal British Legion is one of the smaller branches in England.

However Oakham and Rutland's long-established connections with the armed forces - historically with the RAF - and more recently with the bourgeoning presence of the Army , the branch consistently punches above its weight when it come to raising funds for the annual Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal.

Rutland has retained its status as a Fairtrade county, recognising the support it gives to the promotion and use of Fairtrade products throughout local communities.

The county was first granted Fairtrade Status by the UK's Fairtrade Foundation in March 2007. It means that Fairtrade products have the backing of local authorities, shops, restaurants, cafés, businesses, clubs and schools.

Oak Om launch a huge success

Business is booming at Oak Om, Oakham's newly-relaunched dedicated yoga and pilates studio.

Formerly known as the Hotbox Yoga Oakham, located behind Oakham Castle, the studio was officially opened a week ago by new co-owners yoga teacher Hanri van Wyk and studio manager Steve Ward.
