All you need to know about Oakham Pride this weekend
Following a successful event last year, Oakham Pride is returning this weekend.
On 17 June, the flags will once again be flying at Cutts Close, Oakham, marking the market town's second ever Pride event.
Last year, Oakham Pride saw well over 500 people flock to Cutts Close and Oakham Castle and join in with the celebrations.
This was the first event of its kind in Oakham, and was well supported, so there is no wonder that the event is returning this weekend.
Despite some hiccups, such as the cancellation of the Masquerade fundraising event and a public miscommunication with Oakham Town Council surrounding funding, the event will be going ahead on Saturday with the support of volunteers and the dedicated Pride committee, headed up by Chair Lucy Slessor.
Like last year, there will be a Pride March to kick-off the day of celebrations, stalls, live music and more.
If people want to join the March, they should be at Oakham Castle by 11.45am to collect their wristbands. The March commences at 12 noon, so the parade of Pride-goers should reach Cutts Close for 12.15pm, when the event really gets going.
The March will depart from the grounds of Oakham Castle and the actual event is taking place in Cutts close.
The window dressing competition is also back, and will see Oakham shops and businesses dressed up to the nines to mark the occasion.
Last year, Connie Taylor and the team at Victoria Hall won the friendly contest.
All are welcome at the inclusive event.
Will you be joining the celebrations on 17 June 2023?
