Mums take on Snowdon at Night Challenge for Mind UK

Three busy mums have trekked to the top of Mount Snowdon and back down again - at night - to raise funds for mental health charity Mind UK.

Bev Goodrick and Terri-Anne Eustace, both from Barleythorpe, along with Emily Talbot, who lives in Oakham, began their fundraising challenge in the town of Llanberis, in the heart of the Snowdonia National Park, on Saturday.

The trio joined 200 other Mind UK supporters to take on the challenge of Wales' highest mountain, supported by experienced mountain leaders.

Bev says: "We signed up for the trek because we thought training would be great exercise and help us to lose some weight and that being out in the fresh air would be good for our own mental health.

"However, juggling our work and family commitments meant we didn't manage to do as much training as we would have liked...or should have done.

"We started out at midnight and got back down after sunrise.

"Terri-Anne had put in the most training and it really showed - she completed the trek in six-and-a-half hours.

"I struggled in last out of the three of us at seven hours and 50 minutes but it was amazing getting to know other walkers and their reasons for wanting to take on this challenge. We all helped each other along.

"But what matters most is that we completed the trek and supported a charity which is very much close to all our hearts."

Emily, who has already signed up to take on the challenge again next year, adds: "It was a very positive and enjoyable experience which we will all remember for a lifetime.

"We would like to thank everyone that has supported us."

As well as the trek, the trio organised a jumble sale and a shopping event which, together with their sponsorship, has raised an impressive £1,380 for Mind UK.

The 200 Mount Snowdon trekkers raised a total of £100,000 in sponsorship for the charity.
