Oakham and District Twinning Association pulled off another successful visit, hosting German guests as part of an ongoing revival of relationships between Oakham and it's twinning town of Barmstedt in Germany.

Between Friday 28th February and Tuesday 4th March, visitors from the twinned town of Barmstedt, which is north of Hamburg, visited Oakham to strengthen relationships between the two towns. Susanne Schmidt, who is Barmstedt's twinning officer, and her husband Otwin visited Oakham. They were invited by Richard Cole, High Sheriff of Rutland, to attend the special service in Peterborough Cathedral celebrating Rutland.

This is just one of many recent exchanges and visits between the two towns. The Oakham and District Twinning Association revived the partnership after 40 years of dormancy and the relationship between the towns continues to grow steadily.

Aside from the visit to the Rutland Thanksgiving Service, the visit also included a run at Rutland Water's Park Run, drinks with associate members in Oakham and a visit to Uppingham Town Hall.

They also met with Head of Catmose Primary School, Kelly Jackson, to discuss future pen pal links. The trip was rounded off by a final get-together in Uppingham on the last night.

The Oakham and District Twinning Association is keen to welcome new members. Do not be put off if you don't speak German or live outside of Oakham, everyone is welcome. Many members have managed to forge strong relationships with their exchange partners, with or without being able to speak German.
