Knife Surrender Bin introduced at Oakham Police Station

A Knife Surrender Bin has been introduced at Oakham Police Station.

According to the Gov.uk website, in the year ending March 2022, around 45,000 knife-related offences were recorded in England and Wales.

In February 2023, the number of fatal stabbings taking place in England and Wales was at an all-time high.

As such, a nationwide drive to reduce knife crime is essential.

Now, Rutland residents can hand in these lethal weapons at Oakham Police Station on Station Road, Oakham.

A spokespersons for Rutland's policing team: "Oakham Police Station now has a Knife Surrender Bin located in the front foyer of the enquiry desk area.

"This will give those wishing to surrender items anonymously will be able to do so within the opening hours of the front enquiry office hours of between 10am - 4pm Mon to Friday.

"This will enable those wanting to dispose of these items can now place them in the slot safely and securely. Any queries our front counter staff will be available to assist."
