Rutland County Council have given the development of a concrete base and pedestrian ramp the go-ahead, meaning that Rutland will no longer be the only county in the country without an MRI scanner.

This development will take place on Land Adjacent To 20A Oakham Enterprise Park, Ashwell Road. Oakham, Rutland.

Community Interest Company Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland Patient Care Locally (LLR PCL), working in partnership with Rutland County Council, will be locating an MRI Pad at OEP, which is owned by the Council. This will allow a mobile MRI Unit provided by University Hospitals Leicester to be located there.

Rutland currently has no MRI facility within the county. This means patients needing the service are often subject to long wait times, as well as having to travel out of the county to Leicester and Peterborough to have their scans.

This will now change, with the addition of the concrete base and associated additions, enabling a mobile scanner to visit the county.

The Rutland and Melton MP Tweeted:

"GOOD NEWS!

"The MRI scanner at Oakham Enterprise Park now has planning permission! Rutland County Council, Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland Patient Care Locally, the Integrated Care Board and I have been working together to secure it.

The MRI willcut down waiting times and reduce the distance our communities have to travel for routine scans and appointments. Work on site will hopefully begin soon!"
