Guided tours have been launched in Oakham.

Jill Collinge is running Oakham Guided Tours with fellow guides Bill Cunningham and Nicola Sandall of Stamford.

Jill is a recognised Blue Badge Tour guide and has been running tours around Stamford for more than 25 years.

Last year, to help lighten her load, Jill launched the Mayor's Guide for Stamford, as previously reported by Nub News.

Jill said: "I am the guide but I did not want to have so much work to do, so I trained five others for Stamford.

"There was a big tour coming to Oakham and we needed more guides. I decided we would have three guides to do a big tour of 50.

"They have been swatting up really hard and learning about Oakham. These are the Stamford Mayoral Guides and we thought it would be a great idea to do public walks around Oakham."

"Oakham is a lovely town. It has the museum, the castle, etc, so we had a word with the town council and they too thought it was a wonderful idea."

The first walk was with Mayor Zoe Nealson on Friday and the walks will take place on a Friday from 11am meeting at Oakham museum, with the walks lasting 90 minutes.

Jill added: "Oakham is a wonderful town to discover. There's lot of exciting things to find. I am sure half of the residents in Oakham will find something knew about their town from the walk. It will make for a very enjoyable tour."
