For the second time in three years, The Railway Inn in Ketton has been awarded Pub of the Year for the Leicestershire, Northamptonshire and Rutland region.

CAMRA is an independent organisation run by volunteers who promote and champion real ale, cider, and traditional British pubs and clubs.

It is considered one of the most successful consumer organisations across Europe. Founded by four real ale enthusiasts back in 1971, today they represent beer drinkers and pub-goers across the UK.

The team host regular meetings and outings, as well as the annual Rutland CAMRA Beer Festival - but most important to the team is their Pub of the Season and Pub of the Year Awards highlighting the top quality of Rutland's local pubs.

Chairman of Rutland CAMRA, Rich Harris, said: "Rutland CAMRA are delighted for the Railway and that our Pub of the Year has been recognised and endorsed by neighbouring branches.

"Many congratulations to Jamie, Louby and the team on this brilliant achievement thoroughly deserved due to their expertise and hard work in not only the range and quality of their ales but in running a fantastic pub at the heart of the community."

The Railway now goes forward to the East Midlands regional competition.

Six other CAMRA branches across the three counties nominated their Pub of the Year entrants:

  • Hinckley & Bosworth - The New Plough Hinckley
  • Leicester - The Blue Boar Leicester
  • Loughborough & North Leicestershire - The Organ Grinder Loughborough
  • Melton Mowbray & District - The Stilton Cheese Somerby
  • Northamptonshire - The Three Horseshoes Northampton
  • Vale of Belvoir - The Anchor Plungar

Judges from each branch visited the seven pubs and scored them according to CAMRA's Pub of the Year Judging Guidelines, with  The Railway coming out on top.

Rich added: "These are some really good pubs and certainly offered stiff competition."

Details for the presentation of the award to Jamie and Louby from CAMRA's regional officer Philip Tiplady will be announced shortly so keep an eye on the Rutland CAMRA website
