The boss of Rutland Showground in Oakham has quit today.

The Rutland Agricultural Society has announced the resignation of Kevin Tighe, who was its chief executive.

He will leave the organisation on July 23.

Chairman of the Trustees David Wood, will for the time being, take over his additional responsibilities, said a post on the society's Facebook page.

His post added: "Kevin has helped the Society through a difficult year with the Covid pandemic and we thank him for that. The Board of Trustees wishes him well for the future."

However, recent weeks have seen uproar over the showground in Oakham hosting in late June a religious festival which attracted thousands of people and a whole range of incidents, leading Mr Tighe and Mr Wood to apologise on behalf of the society for accepting to booking to host the event, as previously reported by Nub News.

Following the furore over the festival, Rutland Agricultural Society also withdrew plans to have regular camping site at the showground, based in Oakham's Showground Way, as also reported by Nub News.
