A local farm is taking care of one poorly resident following a recent health scare.
Rutland Farm Park, located on Oakham's Uppingham Road, has reminded its users to refrain from feeding the horses grass nut pellets after one of their equine residents was rushed to the local vet.
Callum, Rutland Farm Park's Gypsy Cob, has just spent a worrying five day stay with a local "five star" veterinary surgery after he was discovered struggling with respiratory issues.
While Callum has responded well to treatment, the team have highlighted that the nut pellets, which can be purchased at the farm entrance to feed to the goats, will make Callum's condition worse and could be life threatening to the handsome horse.
The team took to Facebook to share Callum's progress: "Ever seen a horse with Asthma? Now you have."
"Our poor Callum was rushed to the vets a few weeks ago which resulted in a five star, five day stay at the vets.
"Callum responded well to treatments and he is now at home having an inhaler followed by his nebuliser for four weeks.
"Please remember when visiting, you must never feed the horses any grass nuts. Any food with dust in, such as pellets can cause his asthma to flare up. So please, we have plenty of other animals that can be fed that enjoy being fed, especially the goats."
This incident is a reminder of the passing of the farm's much-loved and missed Shire, Mr Tom, who passed away in the summer of 2022 after, the team suspect, he was fed something by a well-meaning visitor.
The goats and other farmyard animals look forward to being fed by customers, and with the farm's new summer opening times, you can swing by from 10am - 5pm, Tuesday to Sunday to get stuck in.
