Almost 90 per cent of adults in Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland have now had a first Covid jab – according to the latest statistics.

More than 573,000 people have now had their first Covid vaccination of around 660,000 that need to have the jabs. The figures mean that 87 per cent of those that will be offered it have been given at least one jab. 

Almost 250,000 have now had both doses – equating to more than a third of those who need to be vaccinated.

Latest data – which counts all jabs given in Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland up to an including May 2, shows that roughly 86,000 over 18s in the city, county and Rutland are yet to have received a dose.

Stats also show that 53,387 injections were given in the seven days before May 2, slightly down on last week's 60,000.

The number of people who have received their first dose by age group is:

Over 80s: 50,776

70-74: 53,171

60-64: 60,251

50-54: 69,200

Under 45: 125,928

The number of people who have received their second dose by age group is:

Over 80s: 46,841

70-74: 46,956

60-64: 14,182

50-54: 13,089

Under 45: 36,428

Younger age groups include NHS, health and social care workers and clincially vulnerable patients.

 A twilight drop-in clinic is being held on Saturday, May 8, between 5pm and 7pm at the Leicester Islamic Centre on Conduit Street.

Patients who are 40 or older, considered clinically vulnerable or who are frontline health or care workers are currently being invited to book jabs or turn up for their injections at drop-in clinics.

Rachna Vyas, executive director of integration and transformation for the Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland CCGs, said: "It's so important that people have their vaccine to help reduce the spread of the virus and we hope that by hosting pop-up clinics on a drop-in basis in the heart of local communities it will help people to have their vaccine closer to home – especially in areas of our community where we have seen higher rates of Covid.

"Our teams are working incredibly hard with community leaders and our Primary Care Networks (PCN) to identify areas across Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland which would benefit from having a pop-up vaccination clinic.

Hundreds of patients attended a similar pop-up clinic in Beaumont Leys last week. Health bosses are also exploring drive-through clinics for when jabs are offered to younger patients.
