A 'Souper' success for community lunch space

Two community groups have come together to launch the first Souper Space in Oakham. Last week the new project was launched with great success and much local support.
The Souper Space is a project that uses surplus veg and bread from Tesco to make a free meal for locals. Anyone in the community can pop in for a free bowl of hearty vegetable soup and bread. Every bowl served means less food ending up in landfill.
One of the community groups involved, Root-and-Branch-Out has been running a Souper Space in Uppingham for some time.

The group also manage the Community Fridges and a Community Allotment at the Rutland Showground. They were keen to bring the idea to Oakham and have since teamed up with Pepper's- A Safe Place, our local wellbeing centre.
Pippa from Pepper's says, "we were really happy that Root and Branch Out were looking to launch this project in Oakham. The centre becomes a lively, community hub over the Wednesday lunchtime, you can't help but feel cheerier after a lovely meal, with great company. And locals are helping to save food from landfills. It's a great initiative that we're proud to be running with Root and Brach Out."
The soup lunch is free and open to anyone. The two community groups would love to continue seeing it thrive and becoming a real hub for locals.

If you fancy a bowl of soup pop into Pepper's- A Safe Place, 2A Oakham High Street, LE15 6AL, on a Wednesday lunchtime 12-2pm.
But be quick, once it's gone, it's gone.
