There is so much going on in Rutland this half-term, including events to keep the whole family entertained across the Bank Holiday weekend.

Sausage and Cider Festival

Enjoy a great Barbecue and live music throughout the Cider and Sausage festival, taking place at The Grainstore 25 - 29 May 2023. 

Annually during the May Bank Holiday we go a wee bit 'Wurzel' and host our Cider and Sausage Festival. Featuring 40 real ciders straight from the barrel and locally crafted sausages including our own Pork and Ale, this is another lively Festival full of great music.

Local bands will also be performing, including:

Thursday 25th – Idle Hands, 8.30pm

Friday 26th – Fowokan, 8.30pm

Saturday 27th – CJ Hatt, 1pm – Jordon Poole, 4pm – Groove Cartel, 8.30pm

Sunday 28th – Pembroke Tenneson, 1pm – Funked Up, 8.30pm

Monday 29th – Tantric Specs, 4pm

Rutland Vineyard Birthday Celebrations

On Saturday 27 May, the Rutland Vineyard team will be celebrating the 2nd Birthday of the local vineyard and attraction.

There will be:

  • a hog roast 
  • cake
  • live music
  • wine tasting
  • tea and coffee

No booking is required - just turn up from 1 - 9pm and enjoy!

Greetham Duck Race

Duck Fest returns to Greetham's popular local pub, The Plough, this weekend!

On 27 May, The Plough will be welcoming popular local band, The Detonators from 8:30pm. 

Shoddywaddy will be performing on 28 May from 3pm. 

Black Jack will round off the weekend of live music as the venue from 2pm on 29 May. 

The 29 May is also when the legendary Duck Race takes place. Get there by 11am to join the fun, sponsor a duck, and see if you win.

Live Music at The Fox and Hounds

On Sunday 28 May, Paul Martyn will be performing at The Fox and Hounds, Knossington.

Paul is a saxophonist, DJ and singer who performs soft, romantic ballads, funky tunes, and rocky solos.

The gig will start from 5pm, with food served beforehand. Call 01664 452 129 to book a table.

The bar will be open all day and evening.

Oakham Baptist Church 250th Birthday Party

Oakham Baptist Church will be turning 250 this month, and have announced that they will be celebrating with a party in Cutts Close on Sunday 28 May. 

The party will be open to all and free to attend. 

The event will begin with an open air service at 11am, with celebrations kicking off at 12pm. 

There will be:

  • food and drinks
  • cream tea
  • activities 
  • crafts
  • family-friendly activities
  • live music
  • a bouncy castle

Rutland Water Cycle Ride

As a part of the Rutland Walking and Cycling Festival, the Cyclists of Stamford Club Ride are hosting a free ride around Rutland Water.

Take part in a dedicated 18-mile bike ride around Rutland with a half way coffee stop in Uppingham along the way.

This will start and finish at Rutland Water, Normanton Car Park. Bring your own bike or hire one with Specialized. Tandem rides are available for visually impaired riders and opportunities to join other group rides.

The ride will take place on Sunday 28 May from 9am, from Rutland Water Normanton Car Park, Edith Weston, LE15 8HD.

Burghley Game and Country Fair

Burghley Game and Country Fair returns on Sunday 28 and Monday 29 May for the last bank holiday weekend of the month.

There will be:

  • live entertainment
  • 'have a go' country sports and pursuits 
  • falconry and fishing 
  • shooting village
  • dog competition 
  • craft marquees and demos
  • food halls, stalls and street food
  • jazz and folk music

Rutland Farm Park Superhero Day

Throughout half-term, Rutland Farm Park are hosting a range of family-friendly events.

Kicking things off, they have a Superhero Day on Monday 28 May. with more events and sessions for children and families taking place until 2 June.

These include:

  • Visits from Thor and Ironman on the morning of Monday 28
  • Spider-Man and Deadpool on Monday afternoon
  • Now serving Ferneleys mini ice cream tubs.
  • Guinea Pig Cuddles everyday at 11am and 3pm (near the big horses - new cuddle corner coming soon)
  • Feed the animals around farm (please do not feed the horses, Guinea pigs or rabbits)

Fundraising Car Boot Sale

On the last bank holiday Monday in May, Rutland Showground will play host to the postponed Coronation Car Boot Sale. This event was scheduled to take place over the Coronation weekend, but will now take place on 29 May 2023.

'Clear out to help out' is the theme and residents are encouraged to clear out their homes, garages and lofts to sell goods for charity.

Funds raised will go to Rutland Foodbank, Rutland Citizens Advice, and For Rutland.

There will be food and drink, a funfair, games, stalls and more.

This will take place from 10am until 4pm.

Stamford Stitchers Exhibition

The Stamford Stitchers exhibition is taking place from 20 May to 14 June at Rutland County Museum, Oakham, LE15 6HW.

Learn about, browse and buy embroidery, textiles and mixed media - if you thought you knew stitching, think again! 

Admission will be free, with some items for sale throughout. 

The museum is open:

Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday 10am – 4pm (Last Entry: 3.45pm)

Closed on Bank Holidays.

Oakham Canal Walk

As a part of the Walking and Cycling Festival, on Tuesday 30 May, the Oakham Canal Green Corridor Project volunteers will be hosting a guided walk.

From 10am, join the team for a 5-mile loop of the canal from the centre of Oakham and learn all about the fascinating history and future of this beautiful waterway along the way. Suitable for ages 5 and up, 8- person limit and unsuitable for pushchairs, wheelchairs, and dogs. Free to attend however donations are welcome to the Oakham Canal Green Corridor Project on the day.

'Fantastic Fantasy' May Half-Term Crafts

Join the team at Rutland County Museum for some fantastical and out-of-this world crafts, from aliens and superheroes to unicorns and more!

The sessions cost £2.50 per child (free for under 4s) and there is no need to book, but places will be on a first come, first served basis.

The two sessions will take place at 10.30am-12noon and 2.00-3.30pm on Wednesday 31 May 2023.

Half-term at WellandVale

WellandVale Garden Centre and the Orchard Cafe, Glaston Road, Uppingham, will be open and operating over half-term, so take the family out for lunch or to learn bout gardening, get your summer supplies, and spruce up your garden in time for summer. 

Welland vale garden centre also has a special offer of 20% off many of its garden furniture sets (certain ranges excluded) from now until the end of may to help everyone get their garden summer ready. 

The venue is open Monday - Saturday, 9am - 5pm and Sunday, 10am - 4pm
