Rutland Farm Park has welcomed a new calf on the yard on the 10th anniversary of the passing of Richard, a Rutland local and loving fiancé.

Headed up by owners and hands-on managers Clive and Julie, Rutland Farm Park has been a top spot for grownups and children since it reopened in 2017 after being closed for over a decade.

It brags a range of attractions and features, including a café, play park, animal petting and feeding sessions, a selection of home and handmade and allergy-friendly goodies available at Daphne's tea room, holiday activities and a collection of rare breed animals.

And that rare breed collection is ever expanding.

A brand new calf has been born on the farm, and its arrival came just in time to mark a special anniversary for the team.

As well as raising £1,000 for Blood Caner UK at their fun day, they also welcomed a calf, who they have named Richard.

They shared the news on social media: "You may have seen that we held a charity funday this month in memory of Richard. Well, this little fella was born on Richard’s 10th anniversary, so it only seemed right that we named him after Richard. Though it hasn’t been smooth sailing and he did require some emergency care from the vet last Friday. But look at him now, look how big those eyes are! Isn’t he cute!"

Richard was a loving and much-loved member of the family both at Rutland Farm Park and his own family, who run Portess in Oakham. He worked in the high street store for many years and was a friendly and familiar face to both colleagues and customers.

On the ten year anniversary of Richard's passing, the team decided to raise money for Blood Cancer UK at their annual fun day – something that they hadn't hosted since the pandemic closed them down in 2020.

The team have welcomed a host of new arrivals this summer, and there is still time over the summer holidays to meet them. Image credit: Rutland Farm Park.

You can follow them on Instagram and Facebook for more wholesome content and to find out more about the family-led team behind Rutland's popular attraction.

Alternatively, pop along to the farm on Uppingham Road, where you can enjoy homemade food and more in Daphne's tea rooms, before purchasing your tickets and heading in to see their new entertainment centre, larger-than-ever collection of heavy horses, or joining in with their guinea pig petting sessions, and much more.

They are open Tuesday to Sunday, 10am to 5pm, and on Mondays during the holidays, including bank holidays.

Parking is free, and you can purchase extras like animal feed on the day – just be sure not to feed the horses.
