Social workers from across the East Midlands gathered at Oakham's Rutland County Museum for a regional conference aimed at sharing knowledge and skills to help protect children and families.

The conference was organised by the East Midlands Regional Principal Social Worker network and brought together more than 75 child and family social workers to promote excellence and best practice.

A new facility to enable children with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) to be educated locally, within a mainstream school, have been given the green light by Rutland County Council's planning team.

The new facility is to be developed as part of a partnership between the council and Uppingham Community College and will provide a bespoke learning environment for children with SEND requirements.

The Weekend Gents Medal competition at Greetham Valley Golf Club was played in excellent golfing weather and this was demonstrated as more than a dozen of the top entrants performed at par or better.

In third spot, Jason Greig (hcp 14) had an excellent round for a nett 69 as he started like a train with birdies on the first two holes which took him at the turn to only two over gross.
