New limits on trailer sizes at Cottesmore Recycling Centre

2nd Sep 2019 | Local News

New safety restrictions are being introduced to limit the size of tow trailers permitted on site at Cottesmore Recycling Centre.

From 1 October 2019, only those vehicles with trailers under two metres or 6.5 feet in length (not including trailer towing iron) will be allowed access to the Burley Road site.

The restrictions are being brought in to reduce congestion and improve site safety, specifically because of the limited parking and turning space at Cottesmore.

Councillor Gordon Brown, Cabinet Member for Environment at Rutland County Council, said: "Cottesmore Recycling Centre is a very small site which doesn't lend itself well to vehicles with large trailers.

"There's little space for turning and unloading, particularly when the site gets busy, and only a short access road that leads straight onto the main Burley-Cottesmore road.

"Vehicles with trailers will still be able to access the site. We only ask that these are kept to a certain size so that the site remains safe and accessible for everyone who want to use it."

The new restrictions will only apply to Cottesmore Recycling Centre and not to Rutland County Council's larger North Luffenham site, which will continue to accept trailers of all sizes:

Both Cottesmore and North Luffenham recycling centres accept a wide range of household waste items and recyclable materials and are free to use.
