Motorist are advised to take extra care on the roads this afternoon and evening (Fri) after the Met Office has issued a yellow thunderstorm warning across Rutland.

The weather forecaster predicts that the county runs the risk of falling foul of 'heavy thundery showers' this afternoon and until 11pm today - some of these will be 'quite prolonged'.

Drivers are being advised that spray and flooding on roads 'may cause some travel disruption'.

A yellow thunderstorm warning definition states:

- Some flooding of a few homes and businesses likely, leading to some damage to buildings or structures

- Spray and flooding on roads probably making journey times longer

- Bus and train services probably affected with journey times taking longer

- Some interruption to power supplies and other services likely
