Shakespeare in Song

It's 460 years since the birth of Shakespeare! To celebrate, the Harborough Singers will present an evening of glorious words and music inspired by 'the Bard' on Saturday 2nd November.

The programme will include Shakespeare Song sets by Emma Lou Diemer, Charles Paterson and Vaughan Williams and two works by modern composers set to Shakespeare's words.

For well-loved tunes from Bernstein's 'West Side Story', famously based on 'Romeo & Juliet', the choir will be joined by David Ayre on double bass, Graham Instrall on drums and, of course, Andrew King on piano. George Shearing's 'Seven Songs & Sonnets' will provide a Jazzy finish.

The concert is at St Andrew's Church, Lyddington, and starts at 7.30. Tickets are £15 (£5 for under eighteens in full time education), from www.harboroughsingers.com or telephone 07761 729558.

Attendees at the Shakespeare event will also be able to pre-reserve tickets for the Singers' annual sell-out 'Celebrity Christmas Concert' at St. Dionysius Church in Market Harborough. This year, the Christmas event falls on Saturday 21st December. Booking will open to supporters on Monday 4th November and to the general public a fortnight after that.
