A new youth choir is launching in Rutland.

Rutland Youth Choirs will be launching in Oakham, Rutland, in September.

Brand new, the two youth groups will cater for young people in school years 1 - 8 (ages 5 - 13) based in Rutland and the surrounding areas.

The choirs will meet weekly on Wednesday afternoons during term time, and provide a welcoming, inclusive space for young people who would like to develop their musical interests and to create friendships with other budding musicians. There is no audition process; all you need is enthusiasm!

This new group will be headed up by Susie Hill, who was raised and educated in Rutland.

Susie studied Modern Languages at Trinity College, Cambridge where she held a Choral Scholarship between 2015 and 2020. She now enjoys a busy career as a secondary teacher and choral singer, including in the professional choir of the Chapels Royal HM Tower of London.

She works regularly with the National Youth Choirs of Great Britain and is particularly passionate about the benefits of choral singing for young people.

Susie said: "I am really looking forward to starting this new venture in Rutland and hope to meet Rutland's budding young musicians soon."

Susie will be holding a Zoom meeting for parents and guardians of prospective members on Wednesday 6 September at 6pm. This is an opportunity to meet Susie, and ask any questions ahead of the new term.

Following this meeting, the first rehearsal will take place on Wednesday 13 September 2023 at All Saints' Church, Oakham.

Those in Years 1 - 4 will meet from 4pm until 4:45pm, and those in Years 5 - 8 will meet from 4:30pm until 5:30pm
